Gobbill and AirPay FinTech deploys new UnionPay virtual card to facilitate easier payments in Australia-China
Business payment automation company Gobbill and Chinese mobile payment company AirPay FinTech, have teamed up to launch a new UnionPay International digital and physical card with a stored value in Australian dollars.
In China, the acceptance of cash and cards such as VISA / Mastercard / Amex are now very limited. For many non-Chinese residents and tourists without Chinese payment methods like WeChat Pay, this means it is difficult to make payments for transport, food, accommodation and shopping.
The partnership initiative is called HongBao Bulago and have developed an App able to store virtual cards and make payments via tap or scan QR codes like the locals do in China.
Australians, Chinese tourists and international students can also now have AUD based UnionPay International prepaid cards as a choice to make payments across Australia. This provides convenience and choice to consumers.
CEO of Gobbill, Shendon Ewans said, “We are excited to launch this App and more features are already planned for this year. This offering is a game changer for easier spending in China and Australia. Storing the value in Australian dollars means that spending abroad and then at home with the same App results in no leftover foreign currency or double conversion costs.”
The virtual prepaid card will facilitate easier trade and tourism between Australia and China, with card holders being able to spend across 95% of point-of-sale terminals in Australia, and close to full coverage across China and 99 other countries.
“We are excited to re-enforce our partnership with Gobbill after launching Airpass and ToPay exactly four years ago this month. The strong partnership helps to build a stable, secure and trusted financial bridge between countries and systems. This is vital for trade and commerce,” said CEO of AirPay FinTech, Stanley Yan.
The product launch event kicked off at the Hilton in Melbourne last night with the Android App purchasing cocktails for guests, followed by another major launch party in Sydney this April.
